Alpha Psi Omega
Alpha Psi Omega is a National Theatre Honor Society for participants in collegiate theatre. Founded on the principles of leadership, friendship and service, it began in the early 20th century with the aim of encouraging dramatic production at every step in a person’s academic career. Alpha Psi Omega has enjoyed continuous national growth and with over 600 casts, is the largest national honor society in America. Membership is open to all students who are active in theatre at UCF.
Music Student Organizations
NAfME (Formerly CNAfME)
National Association for Music Education, among the world’s largest arts education organizations, marked its centennial in 2007 as the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. Through membership of more than 75,000 active, retired, and preservice music teachers, and with 60,000 honor students and supporters, NAfME serves millions of students nationwide through activities at all teaching levels, from preschool to graduate school.
Since 1907, NAfME has worked to ensure that every student has access to a well-balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers. NAfME’s activities and resources have been largely responsible for the establishment of music education as a profession, for the promotion and guidance of music study as an integral part of the school curriculum, and for the development of the National Standards for Arts Education.
NAfME is the professional organization on campus for Music Education majors. Through workshops and clinics, students gain a better understanding of what it takes to be a K-12 music teacher. National Band Association
The National Band Association, founded on September 11, 1960, is the largest band directors’ professional organization in the world. It was organized for the purpose of promoting the musical and educational significance of bands and is dedicated to the attainment of a high level of excellence for bands and band music. Membership in the UCF Collegiate Chapter is open to all students who are interested in a career in instrumental music education. The UCF NBA Chapter hosts meetings and clinics throughout the year designed to promote the world of band music and to provide additional educational opportunities for instrumental music education majors. Sigma Alpha Iota
Sigma Alpha Iota is a music fraternity for women, which promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. Founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music, Ann Arbor, MI, members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life, working closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, loans and awards in many areas and at all levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music and provides a lifetime of fraternity contact. The Zeta Tau Chapter was founded February 14, 1976. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Mu Eta Chapter
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is the world’s oldest and largest secret national fraternal society in music. Sinfonia was born on October 6, 1898, at the New England Conservatory in Boston, when a group of thirteen young men under the guidance of Ossian Everett Mills “to consider the social life of the young men students of that institution [and] to devise ways and means by which it might be improved.” For over a century, Sinfonians in nearly every field of study and professional endeavor have transformed music in America. The opportunity of becoming a Sinfonian is offered to as many men as possible who, through a love for music, can assist in the fulfillment of the Fraternity’s Object and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America. Mu Eta, UCF’s Chapter, was founded on November 11, 1979 and is currently the largest chapter in the country. Kappa Kappa Psi, Eta Sigma Chapter
Founded in 1919 at Oklahoma State University, Kappa Kappa Psi is a co-ed music fraternity that operates primarily as a student service and leadership recognition society whose chief aim is to assist the Band Directors in developing the leadership and enthusiasm that is required of his/her band. Our goals are to provide the band not only with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership and social contacts. The honorary nature of membership is based on our premise that “it is an honor to be selected to serve” this band, its department of music, its sponsoring institution, and the cause of band music in the nation’s colleges and universities. Tau Beta Sigma
Founded on March 26, 1946 at Oklahoma A&M College, Tau Beta Sigma is a co-ed national honorary band sorority dedicated to serving college and band programs. Tau Beta Sigma operates primarily as a student service and leadership recognition society whose chief aim is to assist the Band Directors in developing the leadership and enthusiasm that they require of their band. Our goals are not only to provide the band with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership, and social contacts. The honorary nature of membership is based on our premise that “it is an honor to be selected to serve”—this band, its department of music, its sponsoring institution, and the cause of band music in the nation’s colleges and universities. Opera Club at UCF
Opera Club at UCF is open to all students at UCF.
Mission
The mission of Opera Club at University of Central Florida is to support and encourage quality opportunities for UCF students within the genre of opera – for the enjoyment of the UCF student body and the greater Orlando community. In addition, the Opera Club at UCF strives to support the activities and goals of the UCF Opera Program.
Goals
The Opera Club at UCF strives to assist in the organization, marketing, and production of opera performances by and for UCF Students. Club members serve as Ambassadors for the UCF Opera Program, building strong relationships within the student community on behalf of the Opera Program. Opera Club at UCF places great emphasis on community outreach, nurturing new opera audiences through educational in-school programs, public lecture-demonstrations, very affordable ticket prices, and a commitment to making opera both accessible and relevant.
